Jennifer Lopez se ha convertido en la actriz latina mejor pagada de Hollywood, con un caché de más de un millón de dólares por película. Además, es una de las cantantes latinas más conocidas en todo el mundo, lo que la convierte en una de las jóvenes artistas más completas.

Jennifer Lopez nació el 24 de julio de 1970 en el Bronx neoyorkino, en una familia de emigrantes puertoriqueños. Su padre era informático y su madre trabajaba en una guardería cuidando niños.

Desde muy pequeña, la meta de Jennifer Lopez fue ser artista. Con ese objetivo, sus primeros pasos la llevaron a actuar en musicales, y a tener un papel secundario en la película 'My little girl'.

Pero su gran oportunidad le surgió tras ganar un concurso para trabajar en un espectáculo de Rosie Pérez, titulado 'Fly Girls'. Gracias a este trabajo, muchos ojos se fijaron en ella, entre otros, productores de cine y televisión. Le surgieron varios papeles en series de televisión y se mudó a Los Angeles para intentar abrirse camino en Hollywood.

Tras aparecer en varias series ('Melinda López', 'Malibu Road', South Central', 'Nurses in the line', etc), le ofrecen en 1995 un papel para aparecer en la película 'My Family', donde se narraba la historia de una familia de emigrantes mexicanos en Estados Unidos.

Posteriormente trabajó junto a Wesley Snipes y Woody Harrelson en la película 'Asalto al tren del dinero' y en 'Jack', junto a Robin Williams. Su mayor éxito llegó al interpretar el papel de la cantante Selena, muerta en extrañas circunstancias.

En 1997 Jennifer Lopez se casó con el modelo Ojani Noa, del que se divorció al año siguiente.

En 1999 Jennifer Lopez debuta como cantante, con el álbum 'On the 6', logrando situarse en los primeros puestos de las listas, vendiendo más de un millón de copias. El disco llevaba el sello de Emilio Estefan y se la llegó a considerar como la nueva Gloria Estefan.

En el 2001 publica 'J.Lo', un disco que resulta ser un tremendo éxito entre sus incondicionales fans y dando lugar a un disco de mezclas un año después, titulado 'J.To The L-O'.

A finales del 2002, la flamante Premio MTV Europa a la "Mejor Artista Femenina del 2002", Jennifer Lopez regresa con la carga sensual a la que nos tiene acostumbrados, y darnos lo mejor de sí. En menos de 4 años, las ventas mundiales de Jennifer Lopez superan los 25 millones de copias. Los últimos 5 singles de Jennifer han entrado en el Top 5 de las listas de ventas en todo el mundo.

En 2005 Jennifer Lopez publica "Rebirth" (Renacer), su 4º álbum, con el que vuelve a marcar las nuevas tendencias musicales. Compagina en cada canción pegadizas melodías pop con sonido R&B y una producción musical que va por delante. El álbum incluye también una canción en español.

En 2007 publica "Como ama una mujer", once nuevos temas interpretados en español por Jennifer Lopez. El álbum está coproducido por el marido de Jennifer Lopez, Marc Anthony, quien a su vez participa en la composición y arreglos de alguna de las canciones.

Jennifer Lopez portrays defiant Latina immigrant Anita and helps re-create scenes from the beloved 1961 film version of West Side Story.

The 39-year-old singer/actress watched the film “37 times” as a kid growing up in the Bronx. Says Lopez, “I never wanted to be that wimpy Maria, who sits around pining for her guy. I wanted to be Anita, who danced her way to the top.”
